With Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announcing that the ‘Gadar Film Awards’ will be organized on March 30(Ugadi festival), it looks to be a celebration time in Tollywood.
“Gadar Film Awards have been revived and it’s golden days for the Telugu film fraternity,’ says producer C Kalyan, who claimed that awards have been defunct for many years. “Now, Telugu actors and directors would eagerly await notifications for applying for awards. And then wait for announcements of prestigious winners. All the winners would turn up for the big event along with special guests to make it big since state awards are celebration time for Tollywood,” he adds.
Earlier, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy assured Tollywood filmmakers that he would revive the film awards (formerly Nandi Awards) in Telangana state and thereafter formed a 17-member Gadar film awards committee led by legendary filmmaker B Narsing Rao, and the likes of Suresh Babu, Allu Arvind, and others. “We are happy that Telugu film talent will be honored after a long hiatus and receiving state awards is always high. We are framing guidelines on various eligibility criteria for prospective winners among actors, directors, and technicians. We are discussing a new logo and other associated things.
However, we will be closely working with officials of Telangana State Film Development Corporation to make awards night possible every year from now, “said B Narsing Rao who was known for award-winning films like ‘Rangulakala,’ ‘Daasi’ and ‘Maa Bhoomi’
C Kalyan further added, “Earlier Nandi Awards honored the best of talent for many decades. However, it was discontinued in 2016 by the erstwhile government. But now, the Congress government intends to usher in the golden era of cinema yet again, says C Kalyan and adds, “Tollywood flourished in Hyderabad under the different Congress governments in the 70s and 80s. “Even late Dr Rajasekhar Reddy, the then Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh had done a lot for the Telugu film industry and encouraged talent. I reiterate that except for Congress, no other government showed benevolence and support for the Telugu film industry.”
