Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, currently in the news for Marco, has stepped down as the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) treasurer. In a long note, Mukundan wrote that increasing work commitments have ‘significantly impacted his mental health’. He also mentioned that he would continue with his role as a treasurer until a new member is appointed to ensure a smooth transition.
Addressing his Instagram followers, Unni Mukundan wrote, “I hope this message finds you well. After much thought and reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my role as the Treasurer (AMMA) (sic).”
He continued, “I have truly enjoyed my time in this position, and it has been both an exciting and rewarding experience. However, in recent months, the increasing demands of my work, particularly with Marco and other production commitments, have significantly impacted my mental health. Balancing these responsibilities, along with the pressures of my professional life, has become overwhelming. I now realize the importance of stepping back to focus on my own well-being and that of my family’s (sic).”
“While I have always given my best in serving this role, I recognize that I can no longer fulfill my duties effectively given the growing commitments ahead. It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation. I will, however, continue to serve until a new member is appointed, ensuring a smooth transition (sic),” he further.
He concluded his note with, “I am deeply grateful for the trust and support I have received during my tenure, and I wish my successor every success in carrying forward the responsibilities of this role. Thank you all for your understanding and continued support (sic).”
Here is his note:
In August 2024, the 17-member executive committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), led by its president Mohanlal, resigned following mounting allegations of sexual abuse against prominent film personalities, many of whom were linked to the organisation. The developments came in the wake of the Justice K Hema Committee’s report on the working conditions of women in Mollywood.
The AMMA leadership faced intense criticism from both its members and the public for failing to respond adequately to the findings of the Hema Committee report and the allegations on the former office-bearers.
