Malayalam actor Basil Joseph has responded to the ongoing comparisons between him and industry colleague Dileep, saying he prefers to be recognised for his own identity. Speaking at a press meet for his upcoming film Pravinkoodu Shappu, Basil clarified that while he appreciates the love and support from his fans, he wants to carve his own path in the industry.
“I am happy to know that people love me, but I want to have my own identity,” Basil said. The actor also stated that he is not interested in being compared to the legacy of Dileep. “He created his own legacy through the films I watched growing up. I don’t want to be compared to anyone else’s success.”

Basil’s inspiration for police character in Pravinkoodu Shappu
During the press meet, Basil also discussed his role in the upcoming film Pravinkoodu Shappu, where he plays a police character. He revealed that he had initially drawn inspiration from the character of Suríya in the Singham movies. Basil added that when the shoot began, he had asked his gym trainer that the background music from Singham played in everyone’s minds when he arrived on set, emphasising the physical bulking up he needed to achieve. However, with only two weeks left for the shoot, the trainer told him that it would be impossible.
Pravinkoodu Shappu is produced by Anwar Rasheed under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments and marks the directorial debut of Sreeraj Sreenivasan. The film features a talented cast including Soubin Shahir, Chandini Sreedharan, Shivajith Padmanabhan, Shabareesh Varma, Niyaz Bakkar, Revathi, Vijo Amaravathi, Ramkumar, Sandeep, and Prathapan KS. The dark humour genre film was shot in locations in Ernakulam and Thrissur.
